Myofascial release is a manual therapy technique that focuses on pain believed to arise from myofascial tissues — the tough membranes that wrap, connect and support your muscles. During myofascial release therapy, the therapist locates myofascial areas that feel stiff and fixed instead of elastic and movable under light manual pressure. These areas, though not always near what feels like the source of pain, are thought to restrict muscle and joint movements, which often contributes to chronic pain.
Manual and instrumentalized miofascial release techniques loosen up restricted movement, leading indirectly to reducing pain and improving function. These techniques include cupping, instrumentalized massage and fibrolysis, floss band, Kinesio Taping, exercises and massage. |
SPORTS MASSAGE & CUPPING
Treatment is based around problem areas and/or an injury to enhance rehabilitation by helping to improve circulation, assisting removal of waste products and to decrease muscle tension when needed. The use of silicone cups helps remodel the myofascial tissue, increase hydration and circulation in the tissues, and improve gliding of structures, thus improving function and efficiency.

KINESIO TAPING
Kinesio Taping Method is applied over muscles to reduce pain and inflammation, relax overused tired muscles, and to support muscles in movement on a 24hr/day basis. It is a non-restrictive type of taping which allows for full range of motion.
It can also be used for acute trauma, such as ankle sprain, hematoma and a pulled muscle. Or other conditions such as subluxating patella, rotator cuff injuries, tendinitis, rib injuries, etc |
INSTRUMENTALIZED MIOFASCIAL RELEASE
This painless procedure with tools is indicated in post-traumatic and post-surgical tissue adherences with joint limitations, inflammatory pain in tendons, ligaments and muscles. It can be used for the treatment of tendonitis, lumbago, stiff neck, neuralgias, bursitis, etc. The crochets allow great precision in the treatment of deep connective tissue. Thanks to the different crochets calibers, the therapy can be adapted and optimized over the structures to be treated.

FLOSS BAND THERAPY
Tissue flossing has also been known as Blood Flow Restriction therapy/training.
Mainly used by athletes and sporting physiotherapists or practitioners to: reduce pain, increase range of movement and improve flexibility. On applying the band to the body part, under tension and holding this compression for 45-60 seconds while performing gentle ROM exercises, this causes compression and venous constriction. The effect of compression helps reduce oedema and aid excess fluid return into the lymphatic system. After removing the compression the re-perfusion of the blood to the muscle tissue can improve mobility and decrease pain. |
Letters of recommendation and testimonials of patients
Some months ago I was running full out for a tennis ball and tripped and fell. The resulting injury was a fracture of both of my arm bones, the ulna and the radial. One of the bones was displaced upon impact with the courts and my elbow was chipped as well. The medical term for this injury is “Monteggia fracture”. The injury required surgery in San Jose and I now have a titanium plate and 6 screws in my left arm.
My surgeon, Dr. Contreras, was very concerned that I had access to good physical therapy, because this injury requires intensive and regular therapy to avoid an outcome of a greatly reduced function of the arm, the hand, elbow, wrist and shoulder. I told him I did. Indeed, I told him about Jane. Jane has worked with my husband Curt over the past several years. Curt has a permanent disability due to a serious back injury. With Jane’s help he has improved significantly.
As soon as I could begin therapy with Jane, I did. She was so gentle yet firm about my exercises. She helped me move my hand gently at first and little by little we made slow but steady and hopeful progress. My hand, and all my ligaments which had been immobilized for months during my recuperation, began to move and become more flexible. Jane helped me to stretch farther and farther each time, to heal and to build back strength.
Each time I visited my surgeon he would measure my progress by checking the angle of my elbow extension and the rotation of my hand. (Something Jane was doing also at every session.) He was AMAZED at the progress and the degree to which I was able to move my arm and hand, elbow and wrist which were all affected in the injury.
Today I am almost fully recovered and I am playing again. I know I would never have had such a great outcome without Jane as my therapist. She is just the most wonderful physical therapist a person could have. We are so fortunate to have a practitioner like her, here in our community. I will be forever grateful to her for her knowledge, ability and compassion.

I had experienced chronic knee pain for almost two years. As a healthy, 54 year old tennis player and surfer, I wondered whether I would be able to enjoy my favorite activities, and even walk around the house without pain, for the rest of my life. Jane examined my knees, legs and body and then did some research. She found what I believe is an accurate explanation for why I was feeling this pain, that two doctors I had seen had not. Then she proscribed a regular regimen of spinning (on a stationary bike that I have), strengthening exercises, stretching, using a roller for my legs and back, and icing. She demonstrated the exercises, stretching, and rolling, then watched me to ensure I was doing them correctly, and provided me detailed notes and diagrams for my workouts. For the past several months, I’ve been following her prescriptions, and now have almost no knee pain! I’m playing tennis again regularly, and surfing almost every day. Thanks Jane!

Jane Marchant is a gift to our community here in Costa Rica.
Her knowledge of the human body, and her continued passion in the field of Physical Therapy, is what makes her an exceptional therapist.
I recently had some shoulder issues that were causing pain, and after one session, my shoulder had more flexibility and less inflammation and discomfort.
Besides her thriving business, she fills her morning schedule with various classes, in Pilates and yoga, to name a few. And she is continually hosting other professionals and sharing her space with a wide variety of talented people. Did I mention she is a joy to work with as well?
