What to Expect in Your Sessions with Jane Marchant, Physiotherapist
I am dedicated to empowering you on your journey to recovery, well-being, and fitness. Whether you're dealing with a twisted ankle, chronic pain, persistent aches, or recovering from surgery, I will ensure that I fully understand how these issues have impacted your life and what you hope to achieve from our sessions together. I will work within your timeframe and budget to create a personalized plan to help you regain your strength and vitality.
My approach is holistic, considering the entire person rather than just focusing on the symptoms. I believe that true wellness is influenced not only by our physical state but also by our emotional and mental well-being. Alongside physical therapy techniques, we will explore lifestyle habits, nutrition, nervous system regulation, and any emotional factors that may need attention to help you achieve your desired progress.

Physical Therapy Techniques I Use in My Sessions:
- Targeted Therapeutic or Sports Massage: Customized to address specific areas of tension and pain.
- Instrumental Manual Therapy: Utilizing plastic and metal tools to deeply and efficiently work on soft tissues, providing more effective results than manual muscle manipulation alone.
- Myofascial Cupping: Applying suction through silicone cups to desensitize painful areas, followed by varied pressure techniques or active/passive movement. Benefits include improved hydration, blood perfusion, range of motion, and pain reduction.
- Easy Flossing: Mobilizing upper and lower extremities with elastic, compressive taping to enhance blood circulation, range of motion, and pain relief.
- Kinesiology Taping: Creating a lift through the application of adhesive tape that decompresses underlying tissues, altering signals sent to the brain and promoting healing.
- Hypopressive Exercises: These involve specific postures and breathing techniques that strengthen the abdominal girdle, improve posture, reduce stress, strengthen the pelvic floor, and offer a range of other health benefits.
- Free Fascia: A quick 10-minute routine to stretch the myofascial chains.
- Proprioceptive Training: Exercises designed to improve joint function and safety.
- Gait Training: Focused on enhancing walking patterns, balance, strength, and mobility while reducing the risk of falls.
- Other Therapeutic Exercises: Including Yoga, Pilates, Swiss Ball exercises, Theraband resistance training, and more.
- Self-Massage Techniques: I will teach you how to use a foam roller or roller massager for self-care at home.
I am committed to helping you listen to and interpret your body’s signals, and I will provide you with exercises and self-massage techniques that you can practice independently to reach your personal goals. I am particularly passionate about supporting my older clients in maintaining fitness to fully enjoy life. I firmly believe that with consistency and dedication, everyone can improve—perhaps even beyond their wildest dreams.

Letters of recommendation and testimonials of patients
Some months ago I was running full out for a tennis ball and tripped and fell. The resulting injury was a fracture of both of my arm bones, the ulna and the radial. One of the bones was displaced upon impact with the courts and my elbow was chipped as well. The medical term for this injury is “Monteggia fracture”. The injury required surgery in San Jose and I now have a titanium plate and 6 screws in my left arm.
My surgeon, Dr. Contreras, was very concerned that I had access to good physical therapy, because this injury requires intensive and regular therapy to avoid an outcome of a greatly reduced function of the arm, the hand, elbow, wrist and shoulder. I told him I did. Indeed, I told him about Jane. Jane has worked with my husband Curt over the past several years. Curt has a permanent disability due to a serious back injury. With Jane’s help he has improved significantly.
As soon as I could begin therapy with Jane, I did. She was so gentle yet firm about my exercises. She helped me move my hand gently at first and little by little we made slow but steady and hopeful progress. My hand, and all my ligaments which had been immobilized for months during my recuperation, began to move and become more flexible. Jane helped me to stretch farther and farther each time, to heal and to build back strength.
Each time I visited my surgeon he would measure my progress by checking the angle of my elbow extension and the rotation of my hand. (Something Jane was doing also at every session.) He was AMAZED at the progress and the degree to which I was able to move my arm and hand, elbow and wrist which were all affected in the injury.
Today I am almost fully recovered and I am playing again. I know I would never have had such a great outcome without Jane as my therapist. She is just the most wonderful physical therapist a person could have. We are so fortunate to have a practitioner like her, here in our community. I will be forever grateful to her for her knowledge, ability and compassion.

I had experienced chronic knee pain for almost two years. As a healthy, 54 year old tennis player and surfer, I wondered whether I would be able to enjoy my favorite activities, and even walk around the house without pain, for the rest of my life. Jane examined my knees, legs and body and then did some research. She found what I believe is an accurate explanation for why I was feeling this pain, that two doctors I had seen had not. Then she proscribed a regular regimen of spinning (on a stationary bike that I have), strengthening exercises, stretching, using a roller for my legs and back, and icing. She demonstrated the exercises, stretching, and rolling, then watched me to ensure I was doing them correctly, and provided me detailed notes and diagrams for my workouts. For the past several months, I’ve been following her prescriptions, and now have almost no knee pain! I’m playing tennis again regularly, and surfing almost every day. Thanks Jane!

Jane Marchant is a gift to our community here in Costa Rica.
Her knowledge of the human body, and her continued passion in the field of Physical Therapy, is what makes her an exceptional therapist.
I recently had some shoulder issues that were causing pain, and after one session, my shoulder had more flexibility and less inflammation and discomfort.
Besides her thriving business, she fills her morning schedule with various classes, in Pilates and yoga, to name a few. And she is continually hosting other professionals and sharing her space with a wide variety of talented people. Did I mention she is a joy to work with as well?
